Meet The Face Behind House Detectives

In our recent blog, we shone the spotlight on our business, House Detectives, which you can read by clicking here. We would now like to showcase our founder Jerry Ferland and discover what makes him tick. Please take a couple of minutes to understand his secret sauce.

When did you start House Detectives?

House Detectives was started in 1979, which makes it one of the older inspection companies in Denver. I bought the business from an experienced Home Inspector whom I was acquainted with for a few years.

Has your industry changed much over the years?

Since I took over the business sixteen years ago, the industry has evolved incredibly. We now use computer reporting, which includes detailed pictures. Reports also get emailed instead of faxed to the customer or realtor, which increases efficiency. Additionally, we offer more convenient ways to pay for the inspection.

Why makes you stand out from the rest?

I strive to educate my clients, and I believe the maintenance tips I provide sets me apart from others. I also take the time to teach the client about house systems, as I want to see them succeed.

How do you add value to your clients?

I respect everyone and treat individuals how I would like to get treated. It includes making inspections fun, as I think that when you’re having fun, you can learn more and prosper.

What gives you the most joy about owning your business?

It fills me with immense joy when a client realizes that a property is not a good fit after reading my report. I feel that I’ve served them well when they go on to find their dream home. It’s also rewarding to receive word-of-mouth referrals from happy clients.

How do you relax and unwind when not inspecting homes?

When I’m not inspecting homes, I enjoy riding my street bikes and dirt bikes (motorcycles). I also find camping and traveling with family and friends exciting.
